Foreign drivers
Everything foreign drivers need
Are you coming from abroad and planning to stay in the Netherlands for a longer period? In most cases, a non-Dutch driving licence is valid for a maximum of six months. Once your licence is no longer valid under Dutch law, you will need to obtain a Dutch driving licence. Bax Opleidingen is happy to guide you through the entire process.
What about your driving licence?
Depending on the country where your driving licence was issued, it may be possible to exchange it for a Dutch driving licence. If this is not possible, you are required to pass the Dutch driving exams, both theory and practical. Bax Opleidingen specialises in guiding international drivers through the entire examination process. Our English-speaking instructors can also support you in preparing for the theory exam, either in a classroom setting or through individual guidance.
Non-EU / non-EFTA countries with exchange rights
If your driving licence was issued in a country outside the EU or EFTA, it may still be possible to exchange it for a Dutch driving licence without taking any exams. This depends on the country of origin and the validity of your licence. On the right you will find a list of non-EU and non-EFTA countries whose driving licences can be exchanged under these conditions.
Regardless of the exchange possibilities, road safety should always come first when deciding to participate in Dutch traffic. If you are not yet familiar with driving in the Netherlands, we strongly recommend taking several driving lessons to become accustomed to Dutch traffic rules and driving conditions.
